The impact of T20 in cricketing history.
T20 cricket has definitely impacted the bowlers because the
quality has reduced. In the world, few bowlers are all format players like
Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchel Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Shami,
Trent Boult, and Shaheen Afridi. But these are fast bowlers, spinners have
reduced to a great extent. Chahal is a very skillful bowler but he is limited
to ODI and T20, with no test matches. Ashwin plays test well but hardly
participates in ODIs and T20s.
Plus, the franchise concept has given it a bigger push with the recent introduction of tournaments like Hundred and Major League Cricket in the US. IPL is living in a different orbit with exponential growth over the years. The revenues generated by T20 cricket are massive. ODI is in the decline phase with the interest of players and ICC for only world cups. Previously a common international competition, the triangular tournament has been reduced to the Asia Cup, which is technically a T20 match between four or five teams. The last tri-series in the ODI format involving full member nations was played back in 2015 involving India, England, and Australia.
Test cricket still holds a
special place in spite of the T20 cricket craze. ICC has been constantly
promoting test cricket with the introduction of the world test championship and
pink ball test cricket. So, the decline of ODI and TEST is imminent with
franchise cricket being played all over the world providing cricketers less
cricket and more remunerative deals.
